Off To A Flying Start With Manchester Airport
Innovate Educate has produced two hugely successful resources for Manchester Airport. ICT in Action is a CD-Rom designed to provide Key Stage 4 students with authentic material for Applied ICT projects, and Let's Play Airports is an imaginative, original resource for Foundation stage children.

Let's Play Airports
There are many resources for Key Stages 1 and 2, but very few companies provide resources for Foundation Stage children. Let's Play Airports provides everything that teachers need to turn their home corner into a mini airport. The pack includes:

  • A pilot's hat
  • A cabin crew hat
  • Two tabards
  • One table cloth to turn a desk into a check-in desk
  • An open and closed card for check-in
  • A foam-backed destination board
  • Three A1 posters
  • Six A2 posters
  • Twelve photocards
  • A CD-Rom containing games for children to play and a resource bank of photographs, templates and signs, plus electronic copies of all elements of the pack.

ICT in Action
Research with local schools showed that much of the work at GCSE, GNVQ, A and AS level is based on actual business systems and teachers find it very difficult to source authentic information in an accessible format. The ICT in Action CD-ROM responds to this requirement by providing real data based on the information technology used at Manchester airport.

ICT in Action provides an overview of information services at the airport and examines AMOSS (Airport Management and Operational Support System), the database used to manage most of the activity at the airport. It also looks in detail at the following to illustrate production systems, environmental monitoring and facets of customer service:

  • Baggage handling
  • MANTIS (Manchester Airport Noise and Track Information System)
  • MAISY(Manchester Airport Information System)
  • A retail customer profile system.

The CD-ROM contains video clips, images, word documents, interview transcripts and PowerPoint presentations that have come directly from the airport and can be used by teachers and students for project work.

ICT in Action provides curriculum-linked activities but can also be tailored to meet specific needs. It is structured to provide flexibility for teachers; they can work systematically through the CD-ROM or dip in to it as and when needed.
