MAYDAY
Every year, hundreds of children get into difficulties
in or near water. Many are injured, some die. MAYDAY
is a multimedia resource that addresses the issue of
water safety and highlights important safety messages.
At the same time, its many and varied components complement
teaching in Geography, Environmental Studies, Maths,
ICT, Citizenship and PHSE/SPHE/PSD, literacy and numeracy.
MAYDAY also introduces young people to the work of
the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and RNLI. Both organisations
are vital to the safety of those who visit the coastline,
sea or waterways for work or for pleasure. Many members
of rescue teams are volunteers; the resource examines
not only what they do but what motivates them to take
part in perilous activities for the sake of other people.
IE won a competitive tender to produce this exciting
multimedia resource from the Maritime and Coastguard
Agency (MCA) and Royal National Lifeboat Institution
(RNLI).
The resource is targeted at children aged 9-12 and
comprises:
- An interactive CD ROM which children can use alone
or during whole group activities
- Information and activity cards
- Teachersí notes with ideas for follow-up projects.
