More than an Airport

More than an Airport is a non-fiction big book for teachers at Key Stage 2 full of colourful illustrations, photographs and lively text. It introduces young readers to Manchester Airport by looking at:

  • the history of the Airport
  • its layout including an aerial photograph
  • the use of signs
  • how passengers and luggage are processed
  • plans for the future
  • environmental policies with specific reference to the second runway

Activities range from non-fiction activities, looking at signage, menus and processes etc. through to creative role play. There are opportunities to introduce work on words, sentences and both fiction and non-fiction texts. Links to the National Curriculum are clearly specified for easy reference.

  • Handling data

It is aimed at Key Stage 2: Years 5 and 6, however some of the activities may be amended for use by pupils in Years 3 and 4.
