This learning unit is designed to identify the various needs of the actors involved in a development and to explore how decisions are made to implement the desired changes.

Objectives

To make students more aware of how to influence the decision-making process by researching a development from a particular actor’s view and researching the issues involved in an assigned development project.

To identify the needs of individual actors through role play.

Student learning & output

Students demonstrate an understanding of the different power groups that affect the built environment, and how various and complex issues must be negotiated among different interest groups - suppliers, producers, mediators and users (see Powergram chart).
